Project:
Develop and conduct on site and distance learning social marketing and communication courses for CDC staff and constituents.
Goal:
To help CDC build internal and external strategic communication capacity.
CHC’s role:
Developed, tested and conducted a series of one-day training courses - consisting of brief presentations, small and large group discussions, case study teamwork, and hands-on practice - and designed to encourage participants to transfer newly learned skills back to their workplaces and colleagues. Courses included:
Behavioral Analysis for Communication Planning - helps participants conduct a more thorough analysis of behavior to achieve the desired program impact.
Beyond PSAs - enables participants to identify numerous health communication products as alternatives to public service announcements (PSAs).
Concept and Message Testing - introduces participants to the importance of testing, the techniques in testing, the resources needed, and the resources currently available for testing.
Communication Mix Development and Decisions - helps participants understand the benefits and challenges of integrated health communication interventions.
Partnerships for Communication - introduces participants to techniques for identifying potential partners, ways to assess and approach partners, techniques for negotiating partnership agreements, and strategies for maintaining productive partnerships for communication.
Working with Creative Teams - introduces participants to the process of translating creative briefs into communication concepts and messages, techniques for working with scientists and creative contractors through the translation process, and project management tools that can help staff keep communications product development on strategy, on time and on budget.
Using the Media for the Prevention of Violence - focuses on media relations and media advocacy and was designed specifically for community advocates working in the field of domestic violence prevention. The trainings consisted of brief presentations, small and large group discussions, case study teamwork, and hands-on practice.
