Yadira has extensive experience managing health promotion and behavior change interventions in underserved communities in the United States and Puerto Rico. Her experience includes health education, formative research, focus group moderation, training development and delivery, and materials development and adaptation in both English and Spanish.
Ms. Almodóvar-Díaz currently serves as Deputy Director for CDC’s National Childhood Immunization Campaign. Additionally, she provides technical assistance and strategic support to the Immunization Coalitions Technical Assistance Project, the CDC Annual Influenza Campaign, the CDC Pre-teen Vaccine Campaign, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases’ HIV Vaccine Research Education Initiative, and a fire safety and falls prevention project for the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. Yadira also develops and nurtures partnerships with national organizations such as the National Hispanic Medical Association for the promotion of healthy eating and physical activity behaviors among families and youth from diverse racial and ethnic groups. She oversees the adaptation of print and electronic materials into Spanish for the Center for Health Communication program portfolio.
Prior to joining AED, Ms. Almodóvar-Díaz served as a Deputy Project Director at the National Alliance for Hispanic Health. In this position she liaised with 25 community-based organizations across the country, including the Puerto Rican Family Institute in New York and the Chicago Hispanic Health Coalition for the development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs aiming to improve access and quality of health care services. Yadira also leveraged partnership opportunities with national and local Hispanic media as well as health departments and chambers of commerce to promote behavior change interventions. She earned an MPH from The George Washington University. She is a native Spanish speaker and a trained community interpreter.
