Tia provides technical, managerial, and financial oversight for several health communication projects. She serves as project director for a CDC initiative to raise awareness about ways to prevent, recognize, and respond to fall-related traumatic brain injury in older adults and a CDC initiative to prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome. As the media outreach technical assistance liaison for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, Tia assesses TTA needs and plans and delivers TTA to PSN Task Forces, which are led by the U.S. Attorney in each of the 94 federal Judicial Districts in the U.S.
Previously, Tia served as the primary point of contact for CDC’s Pandemic Checklists project. In this capacity, she conducted an environmental scan to identify resources that businesses were using for influenza pandemic preparedness activities; identified pandemic preparedness trends among and across associations that support the critical infrastructure; developed a dissemination plan for the Interim Pre-Pandemic Planning Guidance: Community Strategy for Pandemic Influenza Mitigation in the United States; and drafted fact sheets summarizing four community mitigation strategies.
Prior to joining AED in 2004, Tia served as project director for an underage drinking prevention communication campaign for tweens and their parents. She oversaw the planning and delivery of technical assistance to the campaign’s 11 pilot sites and was instrumental in the research, planning, development, and implementation of the campaign.
Tia earned an MA in Public Communication from American University and a BA in Sociology from Hampton University. |
